Winter Wedding

Client: Private Client

Location: Batsford House, Oxfordshire

A few years ago we ran the bar for a 70th Birthday party for Lord Dulverton at his somewhat understated home, Batsford House. For this party he had a marquee placed on 30ft scaffold over his garden as though it was an extension of his patio area, and the lake below lit up so it could be seen from the marquee balcony. When we received the call to see if we would run the drinks service for his daughter’s wedding at the same venue, not only were flattered to be asked back, but also intrigued to see what astonishing décor would be put on this time and we weren’t disappointed.

The wedding was to be a two day affair and the client had requested that we work on a “give the guests what they want” basis. We arrived on a beautiful crisp December morning to find the marquee on the lawn below the house this time. Little did we know that when the sun was to drop the house was to be floodlit and create an incredible spectacle. As per usual we set up the large winter woodland themed bar, organised the drinks reception and readied ourselves for the 400 guests that had  been invited. From the moment the guests arrived it was non-stop but I can say without hesitation it was one of the most enjoyable weddings we’ve ever worked. Not only were the guests fantastic but there was something magical about doing a big Christmas wedding in the run up to the end of the year. After a heavy night (for the guests not us) we returned on the Sunday morning to nurse some rather heavy heads with G&T’s, Bloody Mary’s and mocktails before sending the guests on their way.
